Earlier today, I had the honor of participating in the Regional Broadcasters’ Stakeholder Engagement on Responsible Election Media Coverage, hosted by @UCC_Official and @MoICT_Ug.

In my remarks, I addressed a growing concern raised by @UCC_ED — the low turnout of media owners at such a critical forum. This absence, I believe, reflects deeper issues in our industry’s licensing structure. Today, the majority of broadcast licenses are held by politicians, followed by religious and cultural institutions, and then private investors like myself. This political dominance has compromised professionalism, with some operating with impunity.
I commended @UCC_ED’s resolve to restore accountability and urged political leaders to support him fully. Uganda deserves a media space driven by responsibility, not vested interests.
I also called on @UgandaEC to enhance voter education, especially around new technologies being introduced. Without widespread understanding, public trust is at risk.
Lastly, I appealed to @GovUganda, through Hon. @CHRISBARYOMUNS1, to engage more openly with the media. While opposition voices are consistent, achieving balance is difficult without government participation.
A fair, balanced, and responsible media is essential for our democracy — and we must all play our part.
