Today, we took another important step towards building a sustainable creative economy in Uganda with the launch of UgaTunes Caller Ring Back Tone (CRBT), in partnership with MTN Uganda.
I believe creators deserve to earn from every legitimate use of their work. A ringtone is not merely a caller experience; it is another opportunity for artists, songwriters, producers and other rights holders to generate income from their creativity. This initiative reflects the fairness principles that Uganda’s evolving copyright framework seeks to advance.
I am grateful to Shadrack Kisame and the entire UgaTunes team for building the platform, Dennis Abigaba Kakonge and MTN Uganda for their partnership, and Bwana Nyombi Thembo, Executive Director of UCC, for his regulatory guidance.
I also appreciate Hon. Andrew Oulanyah, Chairperson of Parliament’s ICT Committee, for supporting fair revenue sharing, and our Guest of Honour, Hon. Mary Kuteesa Kamuli, Minister of State for Gender and Culture, for honouring the occasion.
Through Next Creata SACCO and our 14 hubs nationwide, we are connecting creation, distribution, promotion, monetisation and financing.
Our ambition is simple: creators should not only create value; they should earn from it.
